The Death card in the tarot is the most famous, and the most feared. Its image is one of death. The grim reaper stands menacingly with his scythe poised to claim the next victim on his list.
However, this card is probably the most misunderstood in the tarot deck. Despite the fear it evokes in a tarot reading, the Death card rarely symbolises an actual physical death. Its most common indication is one of powerful transformation. A time of profound and absolute endings, followed by equally profound beginnings. Things come to an end, so that others may begin.
"Death" followed by rebirth.
The energy of this card is powerful, Mecate reins and is acknowledged as a life changing symbol if revealed in a tarot reading. A Querent (person receiving a tarot reading) should be expecting some major endings and beginnings in their life.
These are some questions evoked by the appearance of the Death card:
* What would you like to transform in your life? What's stopping you?
* Have you ever experienced a bad situation from which you learned nothing?
* What do you most fear about transforming yourself?
Relating to personality, the Death card indicates someone who is prepared to accept changes in their life, however profound.
For questions related to family and friends, the Death tarot card represents a turning point in relationships. Be released from restrictive relationships and let in new fulfilling ones.
Paradoxically, regarding health, the Death card can show that a period of poor health will come to an end. But also that health may be at risk.
Depending on the current circumstances of one's love life, the Death Tarot card can predict the end of love relationships, or a period difficulty with a partner.
For career indications, this card shows that transformation is inevitable. One door will close to allow another one to open.
You should always use surrounding cards to help you clarify the meaning and type of transformation predicted. The extent of the transformation is not disputed. The changes predicted are not optional either, but rather something that is required, inevitable, and unchangeable.
Positive connotations associated with this card are endings, transformation, clearance and change.
Negative connotations associated with this card are stagnation, loss of opportunity, or fear of change.
